IOT- Internet of Things

IOT is something that not everybody is familiar with in a technological sense but is something that is definitely all around us already in is growing rapidly. We love to make things easy and efficient as we try to keep up with the pace of the world and IOT is set for a massive take off in both our homes and our businesses.

From a consumer perspective, IOT is something we seem to be have taken a shine to, we have speakers that connect to apps on our mobile phones that we can talk to and tell it what we want to hear. We want to have the knowledge or even settle an ongoing debate at a friend’s BBQ? Ask the question out loud and your speaker tells you the correct answer. Debate settled.

Wherever you can access the internet, you can be pretty sure there will be a smart app running alongside it either right now or in the very near future.
Gartner predicts connected things will reach 20.8 billion by 2020, this is compared to 6.4 billion in 2016. And IHS predicts that by 2025, there will be as many as 75 billion IoT devices worldwide.

Generally speaking, our businesses seem to follow on the trends that are created for consumers as we not only look to make our own lives more efficient, but we also look to make our businesses more efficient too.

What does this mean for Security?
Security in our businesses and at home is something we should already be taking a serious interest in as the hackers, well, they get smarter with the technology we use and take for granted on a day to day basis.

Businesses need to always be thinking about their business continuity plan, ensuring this is reviewed regularly to keep up with the fast-paced IT Industry. We need to make sure that whatever security we chose for our business has the scalability to change at any given point to suit our requirements and making sure we are one step ahead of the hackers!

Network security will be key and IT Departments will have this at the top of their priority list. Cyber hackers will never stop trying to get into our network through any possible route, this means we can never stop making it safe and consider a flexible, robust IT Security solution.
