Welcome to the latest edition of Gary’s frequently asked questions. With permission from Gary, we’ve created a series of answers to some of the most common problems in the IT industry that Gary has asked us for help with over the time we’ve been his IT consultant. We’ll take it from here, thanks, Gary.
“What are the reasons for outsourcing IT?”
There are many reasons why you should look into outsourced IT support. Outsourcing your IT can have many benefits compared to an in-house IT team. Here are just a few reasons why you should consider outsourcing your IT services:
Outsourcing your IT services allows your company to focus on what it’s good at. You can let the IT management company run your IT services and maintain it, while your employees concentrate on your own products and services instead. An external IT focused company will have a lot more expertise and experience available than your internal IT team. The IT company will have expert resources covering all areas of IT and who are regularly trained in current and new technology. Technology is a vast area and it is very difficult to keep an internal IT employee constantly updated.
When you are managing your own IT services, this means you have to allocate resources to handle it. That’s both time, money and people to maintain your IT network and services which you could save by outsourcing your IT support and IT services.
Outsourcing your IT services means that you make more funds available to focus on your own business functions and products, free up employees to return to the work they were initially hired for and gain access to the considerable resources of the IT professionals available in an external IT company.
In addition, an IT company can provide constant coverage for sickness and holidays. And you save on recruitment fees and time should you have to regularly replace an individual. Companies often find they have to recruit or replace regularly due to poor, or no career progression in their IT department.
When restructuring a business to save costs, one thing you can do is outsource your IT services in order to reduce overheads. An external IT company will be able to audit your current facilities and provide a streamlined solution which may mean you can move to a Cloud based infrastructure, which is payable monthly, rather than regular capital outlays in order to keep your infrastructure up to date.
