Welcome to the latest edition of Gary’s frequently asked questions. With permission from Gary, we’ve created a series of answers to some of the most common problems in the IT industry that Gary has asked us for help with over the time we’ve been his IT consultant. “Why is my computer screen black?”

Your computer screen could be black for any number of reasons Gary. The black screen of death is usually pretty easy to repair, so let’s cover a few of them now and see if we can find the problem for you.

First off, try turning the computer off and on again by pressing and holding the start button. If this doesn’t fix the problem, check the back of the monitor and make sure that everything is plugged in correctly and that there is power to the computer screen.

Your monitor should have its own power light lit up and this should prove power is getting to the monitor. If it’s still not working? Take another monitor and plug it into the computer to check that the problem is not hardware based in the actual computer system itself but the monitor.

“That’s great, thanks AAG! It was a wonky cable on the back of the screen.”

No problem Gary. It happens all the time. If you have another issue give us a call, we’ll be back for GFAQ to answer your question (and many more, we’re sure…) next time.

In the meantime, if you or your IT department are looking for assistance with your IT services, consider giving us a call like Gary and outsourcing to one of our experienced IT  consultants. We can even be your on-site IT consultants if you don’t have any. External or on-site, find out what AAG-IT can do for your IT services today on 0114 352 0688.
